How to Fix a Stripped Screw Hole in Wood

On this Fixit Fingers Quick Fix, I'll show you a super simple way to repair a screw hole in wood that can't be moved easily. All you need is a drill, a piece of dowel and a drill bit the same size and you'll be securely screwed again in no time.

So for a 3/8 dowel I use a 3/8? Cause I did and notice it goes in nice but a tiny bit loose. I tried a 5/16 bit and it’s a little more harder but it goes in fully and has a perfect fit. Can feel it snugging as I hammer. Which should I use for a 3/8 x1 for your recommendation? This is for a repair on a door hinge so I wanna make sure it’s a good fit

Question from a humble newbie, is this stronger that the original screw was (pre rotting and looseness), or is it weaker since it's screwed into the dowel instead of the back wood, or is it not any different

also bamboo skewers are good for small holes if you have to move them slightly to get a better alignment
