Those tires work excellent. I just did the same thing to mine and I love it. You might try stretching a rubber band between the 2 landing gear and put Thai straps on each end. To hold it in place, but it works great.

I fly mine, stock setup, on short grass and have had no issues with the gear. However, for some reason the plastic piece that joins the two sections of the fuse tube broke. Don't know if I banged it against something or if it fell victim to too many landings where I let the tail wheel touch first. At any rate, it's flying again and is a remarkable flying machine - if that's the type of flying you enjoy.

My go-to take everywhere plane...love it. There is space in the wing for another servo for flaperons. Just move the one servo over and add the new one plus Rx & Tx set-up...It's in the manual page 17... I slid the battery tray back and run 3s 2200...
