The Bluthner IVa is about 6in longer than the IV and therefore has longer strings and a larger soundboard, giving it a richer tone.

There is one of these in the Megaron concert hall in Kalamata and it's a most interesting and enjoyable instrument - well it would be were it to have had new bass strings as this one, and an unequal temperament makes it sound much larger than it actually is.
