Highlights of life in a submarine
For the parts inside the sub, here a few descriptions:
0:22 taking logs on the CO-H2 Burner
1:31 taking logs on the CO2 Scrubber
1:45 valve line ups for Snorkeling with the Diesel.
2:00 starting the Diesel with air.
2:14 the Diesel running
2:34 taking logs on the Diesel.
2:48 you can hear the turbos on the Diesel, while he is checking oil levels
3:18 cleaning sampling equipment
3:36 more training.
4:16 begins a fire drill
4:20 begins "sucking rubber, " that is what we call having to put full face masks on.
4:32 air hose connections for your full face mask.. you don't hook up right, you don't breath..
4:42 in a fire onboard everyone had to wear full face masks.... or you asphyxiate...
(people with no masks on a running/monitoring the fire drill)
7:24 fire team running the fire drill
7:30 scene fire team leader coordinating the fire team response
8:08 fire hose nozzleman from fire team approaching the fire
(the reason he is crawling is a fire's highest temperatures are high in the space, by staying low you avoid high temperatures)
8:25 right behind fire hose nozzleman is the man with the Infrared Thermal Imager, who can see through the smoke, and yells out to the nozzleman where to direct his water stream...
8:52 cover for the full face mask to simulate low visibility due to heavy smoke in the air
14:51 bringing up the gear to set up railing on top of the sail of the submarine (they are inbound to port)

I always enjoyed being topside while underway. Rare chance to get some fresh air, see the dolphins, whales and flying fish. Fond memories.

Anyone see the "caterpillar" next to the gauges? Reminds me of the Red October.

You wouldn't think it would be so loud!

Jees, the noise coming off all that equipment, it sounds like a machine shop. Not an ultra quiet advanced nuclear submarine...😉😉

Just out of curiosity, are the sailors topside right next to the radar in any danger due to EM radiation from the radar antenna? They seem to be staring it right in the face.

US submarine is well lit and more comfortable than the russian. But Russian sub have a smoking room..that's a plus.
