Great advice for beginners to realize the importance of the third shot. The only problem with the practice exercise is that is does not simulate at all the reality of the return of serve. Simply dropping a ball vertically is quite different from handling a ball being returned really hard, fast and flat. I'm fairly new at the game, but this is the area I am experiencing the most difficulty. Thanks again for all your tips. As a former tennis player, I am really enjoying the game.

This is one of the best 3rd shot videos I have seen. Simple and a great drill you can do on your own.

Excellent video....can't wait to utilize drill to replicate motion for for all of the people talking about hitting baseline returns instead of the 3rd shot drop, you will get smoked by 3.5 players and above. They will see your baseline shot coming, move to the kitchen line and block or blast a return away from you. The Third Shot Drop is critical if you're serious about elevating your game.

Great tips and technique. Not always so easy when the ball has been smacked back at you at high speed! :)

This video with Wes is one of the best! I use these drills to help others and recommend it to all. I send this link in a follow up email to help players remember what to do - keep it simple! - Jennifer Lucore

This has made more sense to me than all the others I’ve watched on the third shot drop. TY

Thanks and nice backyard court. How much did it cost to build?

Wes usually does a mean backspin slice 3rd shot drop. But, that is for someone much more advanced.

Fascinating how pros teach the shot vs. how they actually execute it themselves. My advice is to ignore their advice and just observe and attempt to imitate how they actually perform it. They use a unified body motion. They teach that silly, disconnected pendulum swing. Totally different.

EXCELLENT video. Thing is, it could have started at 1:50.

Why are all 3rd shot drop videos about the forehand?

I was wondering if you build a pickle ball court in your lawn
