Nvidia Doubles Down Despite Horrible RTX 4070 Sales & Retailers Get Desperate

Something that rarely occurs in the GPU market is prices dropping on newly released graphics cards. This has just happened to one of their most popular segments the mid-range market. Where the RTX 4070 was supposed to carry on that tradition of being a great bang for the buck GPU. Though everyone has seen through the façade, the 4070 at best is an RTX 4060 Ti and should have been sold at $399 tops. Early sales numbers for the RTX 4070 are atrocious and retailers are getting desperate offering $100 gift cards or other free PC parts with the purchase of an RTX 4070. Despite that Nvidia still seems quite hell bent on pursuing their higher margins and could artificially limit the supply due to the poor response and maintain those high prices. Let’s how this plays out, its going to get quite interesting.

Now we know why EVGA bowed out. They saw this coming a mile away and didn't want to be part of this crapfest. And the fact that NVIDIA is doubling down just made me a Radeon fan.

Oh the RTX 4070, a 60 class card masquerading as a 70 series class card but priced as a 80 series class card… and NVIDIA thought we wouldn’t notice!

What I don't understand is how people consider 4070 a bad card and 4070ti an ok card. Even if we don't consider that they are selling us a 12gb card for 800 $ in 2023. The performance the card gives is completely wasted with 12gb vram. Even an rx6800 will give better performance in upcoming games because of the vram penalty. They make a card with RT cores when they will not be able to use them because of the vram. The 4070ti is even more stupid than 3070/ti at its time. Cause at 3070 time games were based at ps4 vram now new games will be based at ps5 vram. That means that we need at least 16gb vram to be safe. And in my opinion AMD will make even the 7700xt 16gb

...and people still thinks that the price hikes during the crypto boom was due to GPU shortages and not due to the infinite greed of both AMD and NVIDIA.
There is no crypto boom anymore.
There is excess of GPUs to the point that NVIDIA needs to halt GPU production for one month due to oversupply.
And yet prices are the highest ever.

Even if it had 16 GB, which it absolutely should have, in every other aspect it is disappointing. Then you throw the overinflated crypto prices on top of that.... it's just insulting.

The GTX 1070 was faster than the 980 Ti for 379$. The RTX 2070 was faster than a 1080 at 499$. The 3070 was as fast or faster than the 2080 Ti at 499$. And now the 4070 at 599$ is SLOWER than the 3080 Ti. What's Nvidia gonna pull next? An obscelenly priced fake RTX 5070 for 899$ that barely even outperforms a 4070 Ti? What a joke.

They so really deserve that! When the scalpers/miners were buying all the cards, leaving us the gamers with nothing and a very high prices on video cards, they didn't moved a muscle! Now they deserve the non hype and 0 sells! Go ahead and sell them to the miners again! Right? No crying for this companies that are only after the quick money!

Why do people keep saying the 4070 really was an 4060? There NEVER was an 060 GPU THIS terrible!
Just 30% of the high-end GPUs (4090) performance- this always was 030/040 GPU level! This qualifies for 250$ graphics card. Plus inflation it's 300$ max!

"There are no bad products, there are only bad prices". The 4070 should have cost a hundred bucks less and everybody knows it. If their strategy is to simply stop making cards until gamers are FORCED to buy the hardware at the profit margin that Nvidia wants, then just save your sanity and buy something from AMD.

I used to only use NVIDIA but after what’s happened with the 4000 series I switched to AMD. It feels like it’s the only company that gives a shit at this point

In my country (Norway) the biggest retailer doesn't even sell any 4070s. Only 4070ti. Other retailers have only one or two 4070 AIB models available.

You have to forget about cheap cards. Those times are over. If you don't buy, they reduce production.

The 4070ti should have been the 4070 and the 4070 should have been the 4060.

It is pretty simple. The market is saturated with last gen cards . Few people upgrade every generation. Sales were going to be low no matter what price Nvidia gave their products. So they decided to make the 4090 much better than the 4080 to get the rich people who upgrade to each flagship and the rest of the lineup was going to have low sales anyway so might as well have good margins on everyone they manage to sell. Nvidia isn't stupid, even with the low sales this is the best way for them to make as much money as possible during this slump.

My conspiracy theory is that Nvidia is hamstringing the 4060 (ti) in an effort to push people into getting the 4070. Only 8Gb and what, a 192 bit bus? That's less than the 3060 ti! Why pay more for less?
