Wouldn’t Thomas Tallis be astonished to learn that we’re still loving his composition five hundred years later?❤

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter,
that he may ‘bide with you forever;
e’en the sp’rit of truth.

Was 16 when I first sang this for state choir. Still singing it right now at 49, and it heals my soul. Beautiful and timeless. Thank you King’s Singers for an amazing performance.

Thank you so much for sharing the sheet music. About two decades ago I was in an excellent vocal group, the latest in a number of ensembles with whom I had the privilege of singing. Unfortunately I had to leave the last ensemble because health problems required me to undergo repeated surgeries. The intubation caused damage and scarring to my vocal folds and I have barely sung since. But I must have performed this with one of my prior ensembles... the vocal and physical memory I have for music I perform lasts beyond my conscious recall, and when I heard this piece I was able to sing along--very gently at first, but with a very small level of increasing confidence--because my voice remembered what I do not. I have been rehearsing my voice now gently since you posted this and I think I might, in a few months' time and with care for the way I exercise my vocal folds, be able once again to audition for an a capella group near me. If you had not posted this gorgeous piece with the music... I don't know that those neurons, that body memory, would ever have fired the same way. Tallis, Palestrina, Cornysh, that's the stuff right there... and I honestly had forgotten just how singing feeds my soul. It has been 20 years. You may have helped me save my voice after two decades. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This is one of the most beautiful anthems ever written. The tenor part is a joy and delight to sing.

Johnny Howard (bass) is radiating such warmth, it kind of sent me over the edge. As if the music itself wasn't already too beautiful.

Superbly sung! Only Tallis can combine the musical traditions of the Roman and Anglican Churches and end up with this masterpiece!

This is stunningly beautiful and takes me back 70 years when I was a 7yr old chorister at Birmingham Cathedral. How brilliant a way to record this lovely anthem - truly music is timeless in its beauty.

Thanks for this performance. I have a hearing disability and in this way with lyrics, score and most importantly the singers "an face", I can understand it much better and even follow the bass part! This song touches my heart, my soul. It makes me cry, gives me joy and let me pray. Many, many thanks. God's blessings.

Seamless harmonies and pure intervals, with the same vowel pronunciations, and gentle entrances. Lovely performance KS, thank you.

That harmony... so gorgeous! I've sung this so many times, but it never grows old. One of the most beautiful anthems I've ever sung, Thomas Tallis must have had you in mind when n he wrote it!
