Bug Expert from the south of the continent here. Those are "Blattella Germanica", commonly known as german cockroaches. They're small, like an inch big at most, we call them "Chiripas" over here in Venezuela. They're annoying, and love electronics for some reason, we commonly see them inside air conditioning units, behind refrigerators, etc. Basically any device that produces warmth of some sort, will attract them.

So nice to see how this thing looks when you're done!

So nice of Sony to think about cockroaches by giving them a free stay in PlayStation hotel.

I can’t believe just how much effort goes into disassembling and tearing down the console and putting it back together… I took apart and put back my steam deck and it’s not something I’d ever want to do again! Major props to you for the work y’all do.

I live in the Philippines, one of the most humid countries in the world. We do have quite a lot of cockroaches, but in the 10 years I've lived here, I've never had cockroaches or any other bugs in my electronics. And thank goodness for that! I can’t imagine the nightmare of cleaning out my PC if it were infested with bugs like that.

For the glossy black plastic, i'd recommend to use a small polisher and Meguiers PlastX to bring it back/get rid of many scratches.

I can't understand how such dirty people can exist, if this is how the console is, just imagine what their house will be like. These types of situations are simply disgusting.

Nice video as always, but shouldn't you have opened up and cleaned the inside of the power supply? I guess that would be a lot of bugs inside since it is warm in there

As gross as it was, it was actually really soothing and satisfying watching you clean this... You sounded so calm, and chill despite the task haha!

You're brave to bring that to your place. I stopped bringing people's electronics to repair to my house because of things like that😂😂😂 once they get in your house it's hard to get them out

Gross, gross, gross, gross, gross. I've owned almost every console. Taken lots of them apart. I've never had one even close to this gross. How does this even happen. I'm literally genuinely curious. And excellent job on the clean up

You could soak the bottom shell with metal part in soapy water too. It won't rust immediately and is perfectly safe to clean it with water, just make sure to dry it well with paper towels and give it some extra time to dry (or use some hair dryer set at the lowest temp). before you reassembly the console. I washed many metal parts by soaking in soapy water, including shields in SNES, and never got any rust when dried properly.

Also this residue goo from bugs is also their poo ;)

Very pleasing to see how the console was brought back to life! Does anybody else love the smell of new electronics with a fan e.g. a new graphics card or console?!

Unless you live in space, or maybe the middle of Antarctica, there are going to be cockroaches. Those might be either American or German cockroaches - either way, nasty stuff. Peroxide, followed by an IPA rubdown, will make the clean-up easier. Not easy - just easier. It also does a fair job with removing the odor.

And most southerners won't call them roaches - they call them Palmetto bugs, but those tend to be MUCH larger - same family, different species.

I live in fl, bought my first house 9 years ago here and they included a stove with the house. A year or two later the stove quit working... i took it apart to fix, the inside of the circuit board that switches relays to the stove had been shorted out by a dead roach. Its possible leaving roach bits in the power supply could ruin it months or years down the line, it would seem their shells can actually conduct electricity pretty well.

Those are German Cockroaches. They come for the food, and stay for the warmth.

Also, the power supply is the main thing the roaches are attracted to, so I bet there were quite a few dead ones in there. They go into the power supply because of the heat it generates, accidentally touch two points, and get absolutely fried. That's why a lot of roach consoles won't power on. The power supply gets fried.
