Plastic Bridge Pins Vs Brass Bridge Pins (Test)

This is a quick comparison between Plastic Bridge Pins and Brass Bridge Pins. The same two riffs are played with both, on the same guitar, with the same kind of strings, and recorded with the same mic and audio settings.

I ordered my brass pins off a temu for a real cheap price and good quality that I put on my 12 string guitar, but the thing is you really need to know where to put the ball of the string on the pin. I've been breaking strings just tuning the guitar because I am new to the acoustic diy training.

If you have a parlor or dull sound in general a set of brass will brighten and give much more susceptibility than a plastic part. Haven't tried a wooden pin yet so I cannot give an opinion on that option.
In short, the brass will liven up a boxy sounding acoustic.

I'm listening on small speakers so factor that in this comment, but finger picked I thought the bass was the same with both brass and plastic though with the brass the treble sounded slightly more clear. Strummed there was a pronounced difference, and the brass was louder and maybe a tad strident. Very good video comparison.

Brass is warmer. 1970's some also changed the saddle and nut to brass as well. It's a very warm sound.

I got an acoustic with really quiet bass strings, so I replaced those two with brass pins, and the rest with snakewood pins in 2012 and it sounded perfect. I still use this configuration to this day.

I recently changed to brass and came to u toob to see if someone else recorded this. I'm glad you did. Thanks! Thought I was just hyped up cuz I was doing some new strings and hey, New pins!! Why not? A friend of mine told me to try it.My Alvarez has much more punch to it. The tone is incredible, sustain is spot on. Bass seems more defined and clearer with the brass pins. Overall the sound is brighter.

I may not know much about anything but I thought the brass made it brighter, a lil louder and more clear... I just did a brass bridge, bridge pin & nut swap on a Gretsch Rancher Jumbo and I thought about it and then forgot to record the difference like you did... maybe next string change... from what I hear it's a couple bucks to upgrade and clearly makes the cheapest upgrade you can do to any acoustic guitar...

I kept switching back and forth between 1:35 and 2:00 and you can definitely hear the difference. On your particular guitar the brass pins made an improvement in the clarity and sustain. The bottom end became less muddy as well. On some guitars I have heard the brass pins make the sound too brash and drown out the bottom end. On yours it seems to be a perfect upgrade. I'd be curious to hear what a brass saddle and nut would do to your sound. Nice job on the vid.
