I have tried brass, tusq and plastic. I agree with this video and prefer plastic or the sound of bone.

Does 22g of weight saved be more important than tone? Brass pins give a kick in the pants to a dull or overly warm acoustic. I speak from personal experience.

There's one caveat, however. If your guitar is fitted with piezo pups, the metal pins can accentuate those unpleasant "piezo-ish" frequencies. Not always, and not always in a bad way, but its something to consider if, like me, you play with a piezo and are battling that scratchy piezo effect. In my case, I went with Tusq in that axe and put the brass in another.

this doesn’t make sense. just because something is heavier does not mean it will reduce or slow vibrations. all materials have several properties besides just mass. metal is heavy but it also is really good at conducting. it can conduct heat, electricity and kinetic energy. if you look at symbols you can see them rippling like water. if you drop a silver coin or ring it sounds like a bell. even a huge anvil made of solid metal will ring when you hit it and make your hammer bounce back. maybe you don’t like the sound but it’s just not true that heavier pins reduce certain frequencies. sure it might weigh down the guitar top but the difference of grams would be small. that’s less than an ounce.

I swap them out every once and a while. But my Tas blackwood parlour seems to sound good with camel bone pins and my cort gold A8 sounds best with it's original ebony pins.
