Lwów is pronounced “Loof” in Polish, Liv in Ukrainian. The city was majority ethnic Poles and Polish Jews. The surrounding country side were Ruthenian- Ukrainian. Lwów was considered the Paris of the East and the Capital of Austrian Galicia. It was also the home of the Ossolinski National Institute now located in Wrocław, Poland with many of the historical artifacts looted or destroyed by Russians and Ukrainians Nationalists.
