This is one of my fav Billy Joel songs partly because of the history in it (all events and things in his lifetime to the time he wrote the song) and just how darn catchy it is. I love Leo's take on it, too, great grunginess.

An amazing thing about this song is that it is EVER EVOLVING, if you ever see Billy perform this live, there are MORE VERSES that bring it up to "current date".

Given how difficult this song is to sing given the list of references in the song, I have to give you props for pulling this off. Billy Joel has commented how easy it to screw up just one line in this song and throw the whole song completely off the rails when playing it live which is why he doesn’t consider his favorite song to play live even though he still likes the song.

Gosh this brings back memories. I had to take an American Studies class in high school and we studied the lyrics of a couple songs and this was one of them. So I remember listening to this song in class and analyzing the lyrics. Too bad we didn't have this version 25 years ago
