September marks a peak in the fashion calendar. Much of what brands and apparel retailers sell is made of cotton. But this key raw material for the apparel industry can have harmful impacts on the environment. Cotton is a thirsty crop and can use up a lot of the local water supply. Using pesticides to keep yields high can also be damaging to the soil and surrounding ecosystem.
