It's insane how the quality of personal video cameras in the 60s-70s were better than the quality of most personal cams from the 80s to less than decade ago.

In my work, I am currently digitizing old Super 8 and Standard 8 reels for clients.
I have known the format since I was a kid, but never felt the need to know it better, when I got older.

In this world of 4K footage, H.264 and 128 GB memory cards, I have only huge respect for this format, even when it is mostly without sound.

I salute you, Willem.

Can't help but feel tempted to try Super 8 after watching all those yearly-ish films by Adrian Bliss.

I’ve been trying to find a working super 8 camera for years, and I finally did today, and it just happens to be the exact same model from this video! I’m super excited to use it!

The look of your Tokyo/Nyc vacation is nice. The scenes are perfectly exposed and everythings just so smooth in comparison too digitally edited clips.

In the early seventies, my father bought exactly the same camera, I was 7 years old. It was a great discovery for me, my love for filming began at that time.

I'm 15 and I just found a super 8 at my local junk/antique shop. It's a viceroy and it's only $30. I'm gonna get it.

I'm an old fart, so I started with Regular 8 film before we had Super 8 film. With Regular 8, you'd run through 25 feet of film and after that, flip the film over and shoot the other 25 feet. During processing, the film was split down the middle and the two parts were spliced together. Regular 8 was shot at 16 FPS.

The switch to Super 8 was a real improvement, but Kodak changed the frame rate to 18 FPS. I was unhappy about that because it gave a slightly shorter run time. I can't recall the exact year, but around 1970, Kodak introduced Sound movies on Super 8. It was wonderful!!!

I still have my old cameras and projectors. I may have to try out the Super 8 negative film for fun.
