Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens

This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you.

This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment.

The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough.

And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me.

I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love.

There's just something about film

aperture = the amount of light that enters the camera

shutter speed = how long that light is let in for.

I got into film photography for a career because of this video, now I can't imagine doing anything else, so thank you both for making this video.

I got a little teary-eyed when she saw her pictures for the first time. I remember that feeling. I started shooting on film about 5 years ago on that exact same camera you guys are using. I've been obsessed ever since. Great camera. Really really enjoyed this video.

There’s something so romantic about film. I’m absolutely going to pick up a film camera and practice before my next trip abroad

I hope this encourages people to have more prints made of their images, regardless of whether it is film or digital. The feeling of getting prints back is a great one.

This is a cool video because it isn't all technical. It also conveys the overall experience shooting film, which is what a lot of us old fogeys (lol) remember from our film days. Loved watching everyone try the film camera for the first time!

How annoying is it when you take a photo of your friends and all they want to do it check their make-up or their hair on the back of your camera screen. These guys are having so much fun it almost doesn't matter if the camera took any photos at all. Films is so much more fun!

The Canon A-1 is one of the best cameras Canon ever made! It was never marketed very well.

Was expecting another one of those hipster nostalgia worship videos but was pleasantly surprised to see genuine sincere enjoyment from someone learning to shoot film! I don't shoot film a whole lot anymore but man I still get that same goofy excitement getting a freshly developed roll back! Keep shooting!

Also, you actually shot some really nice images!

There's just something so special about photographs...I remember dumpster diving, and finding people's old 35mm photos of pets and family - and crying. You can see the happiness that - or imagine the happiness that those quick moments in time brought someone - the memories that it served. That's why I love photography personally, because I always remember how I was feeling when I took a photo, and I love that sense of finality a photo has. Everything was still for a split second in time, nothing changed, and it's there for us to see, forever. Beautiful video - outstanding.
