Carbon Capture: Can It Really Fix Climate Change?

Carbon capture technologies have been put forward as crucial tools for tackling the climate crisis. But their usefulness is hotly debated.

It is a fact that the Earth is heating up, and we’re to blame. Climate change threatens to unleash a wave of global disasters and, while we are taking gradual steps to become greener, we still generate most of our energy by burning carbon.

But what if, in addition to reducing our future carbon dependency, we could also undo some of the damage we’ve already inflicted? Imagine if we could clean up the atmosphere by removing harmful emissions after they’ve been pumped out – sort of like a power plant operating in reverse. That’s the potential of new carbon capture technologies. Or at least, some believe it is…

The role of carbon capture in the global effort to tackle climate change is a topic of much debate. Could this be an essential new technology that helps to save our planet? Or is it a convenient distraction for businesses and governments to hide behind rather than tackling the root causes of global warming?

Find out in this explainer video from iluli by Mike Lamb – explaining the ideas and innovations changing our lives.

A couple of years ago, carbon capture technology was a neat solution to the problem, that is until we realized it needed a lot of energy and it was potentially generating more CO2 than what it was capturing.

I haven't been up to the technology, have we made advancements solving that issue, making it more efficient?

Rising temperature will make many places inhabitable, but will also make very cold places habitable.

Some very cold regions, particularly those in high latitudes or altitudes, may experience milder winters and longer growing seasons due to global warming. This can make these areas more habitable for human settlement and agriculture:

a. Longer growing seasons: With milder winters and earlier springs, agricultural activities can be extended, leading to increased crop yields and potential for new agricultural opportunities.

b. Access to resources: Thawing of permafrost and ice can potentially unlock natural resources like minerals, oil, and gas, which may open up economic opportunities.

c. Expanded habitable zones: Some regions that were previously too cold for human habitation might become more hospitable, attracting migration and settlement.

Fight climate change hard, but don't overlook other diverse arguments. Great video.

Carbon capture seems like the future along thr clean enrgy from fussion but those are a long way out we need to be conscious of what we use and what we consume before its too late the only way is we need to pressure governments to turn car centric cities into a more human friendly areas
