It’s not how dark Neptune is, but how bleached out Uranus is. 😂

Man, and this is only the tip of the iceberg: the majority of deep space photos are acrtually in false color! The reason isn't because anstronomers are trying to trick you, though. It's actually because of the way telescopes work. For anyone who doesn't know, most telescopes don't image in the same wavelengths of light that human eyes can see. JWST (The James Webb Space Telescope), for example, images pretty much entirley in infrared, so any images you see from it are probably not in true color. The same is also partially true with the Hubble space telescope: while it does image mostly in the visible spectrum, it also images into infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths, so images from it are often depicted with more contrasting colors. In short, telescopes can see colors that humans can't, and so its a common practice for astronomers to adjust the colors in an image to make invisible wavelengths visible.

in the fourth grade, I used a Neptune paper with the darker colours of the planet BUT NOW I KNOW THE HARSH TRUTH ABOUT THE TRUE COLOURS OF THE PLANET. WE HAVE BEEN LIED TO!

I always thought the deep blue was weird, maybe because I grew up with books about space from before that time that usually showed it as more of an icy blue, and Uranus as more of a green.
