MMOs just aren't improving and I'm struggling.

I've played every MMO release this year, and none of them have been any better than any MMO released before them, and I'm struggling to find any enjoyment in them due to having already played the exact same kind of game a dozen times before.
Blue Protocol was delayed in every single country around the world - and even if it released, wouldn't be anything better than we already have.
Throne and Liberty is a generic MMO that has no style or substance - it was as generic as any other MMO released in the last decade.
Tarisland was a mobile game masquerading as a PC game - which admittedly is probably the best mobile MMO - but that in no way makes it a good PC MMO.
Revelation Mobile and Moonlight Mobile both came out - and were AI messes.
ArcheAge 2 was delayed, and both ArcheAge and Chrono Odyssey could be delayed indefinitely due to the sale of Kakao's gaming division.
The RIOT MMO has gone silent for the next several years.
Ashes of Creation is finally going to enter Alpha 2 in October, who knows how many years that'll last before Closed Beta 1, Closed Beta 2, Open Beta, Pre-Release...

The only thing we have of any real worth, has been Dawntrail, the new Guild Wars 2 expansion - Janthir Wilds, and WoW's War Within expansion. But they're MMOs over a decade old.

What MMO are YOU currently enjoying? Or have you moved to other types of games?

MMOs will never improve because they're now made solely to sell you their cash shops.

People complained that MMOs were filled with busy work, that MMOs didn't respect their time, people wanted to hit end game faster, they wanted to get gear easier, they wanted to be able to solo, they wanted to get into groups faster, they bought every shiny thing in every cash shop. Now every MMO is so easy a monkey can hit end game, there is no challenge, there is no community and every MMO is designed to suck cash from you. We truly do reap what we sow.

I feel like the main reason MMOs are suffering is because by time 90% of them finally release they are 10years old. No one seems to be able to develop them fast enough or have enough funding to release a high quality MMO, I think the expected level of quality for games now are too high for any one to realistically release a AAAish quality MMO that ACTUALLY has content. The other issue is money, they need to make money in order to keep developing but no one wants to use Subs anymore and rely on micro transaction that ALWAYS end up being predatory or P2W, because an annoying number of people go "Oh a free to play game" and don't spend a cent on it and than wonder why the game gets no new content or than complain about it being P2W or predatory.

WuWa Genshin style games are eating up the space where MMO used to occupy.

I mean, a lot of these companies are in the stock market which according to US law they have to make profit as much as possible to appease investors or be destroyed

I was having a blast with Throne & Liberty beta. It really hit that MMO itch I've been craving for years. I'm still hoping one of the new MMOs on the way is going to do well, or that we'll be surprised by some complete new MMO we never even knew was coming.

The biggest problem in releasing new MMORPGs at present is the fact so many current MMOs have been going on for so long. Look at New Genesis, which was criticized for a lack of content on release. Look at New World which had the content but was super buggy on release.

Every new game has to compete with established titans that have 10-20 years of nonstop patches and content updates. Is it any wonder then that some take forever to hit the market or come out hobbled and truncated to recoup development costs?

On top of that, recent studies have found players mainly prefer a group of 2-8 friends and a close-knit community rather than sharing a space with hundreds of thousands of strangers. Local server games are on the rise specifically because you no longer have to run across the world to meet up with friends in game when you can just have a shared server. As tough as it is for players, I'm sure it's no picnic for devs either in a corporate environment where investors want guaranteed sales and strong safety margins.

MMOGs are 99.99% pay for advantage. It sucks, but the genre is absolutely fucked.

Slightly off topic but I really want an anime styled Elder Scrolls like game. Character creation and everything, for a one time cost.

MMORPGS may not be dead, but the quality overall is lacking. If someone is doing a great mmorpg, people will sure to play it.

If content creators cant change gaming with logic, then the normal man has no chance.

You either make your own games, or die of boredom, or go to the mall to catch a virus your choice, but in the end all this could be avoided if decent content creators ban together to make games, but all our content creators much rather complain, because they make money off that rather than any real tangible solutions.

We have learned in the last 14 years complaining does not change the market it in-fact makes companies double down on their BS.

This is a big part of why I am grateful for this channel. I don't bother trying new MMOs and I haven't for a while now, because I expect exactly this. I just cycle between the few that I regularly return to and should a new one come out that is actually worth my time, you'll no doubt let me know.

Kind of funny to think that all it would take is for one company to give a shit and make one good anime action mmorpg and they prob make bijillion dollars. Like there aren't that many competitors honestly

See the MMO Genre itself is a good genre. It's just that every single MMO sucks.

I agree, it would be nice to see better games. We've had so many years of pretty much the same stuff. Gaming needs more innovation, not iteration. Thumbs up for great videos.

MMO’s steadily declined after WoW came out and as someone who’s an old school gamer I used to play Ultimate Online and EverQuest back in the day, those games practically invented the genre and the novelty has worn off nowadays, someone needs to reinvent the genre, it’s also why I prefer single player RPG’s, I find them more more fulfilling than what’s on offer these days in MMO’s. I would love to see rereleases of the all the single player Ultima series of games on consoles and the Wizardry series which were amazing back in the day and still are in their own right.
