From time to time my toilet will make a hissing sound as water leaks past the fill valve seal. It's a very simple fix and that's what I cover in this video.

My American Standard toilet started hissing and running about 2 months after it was installed. I had a Plummer come twice and they had no idea how to fix / nor did anyone have a clue at Home Depot. I just did this and it worked perfectly. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks Dec! Saved me a trip to the hardware store! I popped the top off the valve, saturated a cotton pad with vinegar, let it sit on the valve seal a minute or two to dissolve the lime-crust, then used a Q-tip to gently loosen and clean off the crust. Easy fix!

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately the hissing (which stops when I lift the arm) continues as does the slow to no fill toilet tank. The flow of water is powerful (I've tried flushing the Fluidmaster 2-3 times) and works for one flush but the hissing and weak to no fill picks right back up after the second flush.

My toilet makes a hissing flushing noise randomly.. I already flushed, cleaned, and replaced the rubber washer on the filled valve, also cleaned the red O ring of the flushed valve (it does not look worn out). I put some red food coloring in the water tank, it does not look its leaking 30 mins later into the toilet bowl. What else should I try?
