I've just bought the 70D. As I shoot a good deal of video, the 7D's lack of touch screen made the decision for me. I'm sure those shooting fast action will love the 7D, but it's a high premium to pay.

I agree with you, I'm going to stay with my 70D! thank you for your feed on these 2 cameras. I love the movable screen o as I don't have to lay on the ground to get m nature shots.

Top review. I was sold on the 70D, but thought I'd check out the new 7D. However, I think, after your review, I will stick with my original choice of the 70D, especially as I can now get the kit for around $1200 in Oz. Mike

Good review. I have the 7D and need a Vlog camera and am considering a 750D but am worried that the auto focus isn't accurate enough when vlogging. I know the 70D is great for that BUT is pricier. Such a headache

I get around 20-22 shots on my 70D before the buffer fills (just RAW). Getting a faster SD card helps in this regard. I use 45mb/s cards in mine so you may get 20-30 before hitting the buffer with something like a 90mb/s card.

It's extremely rare I'll ever need to use that number of shots in burst mode though in real life, but it's handy to have if you're shooting sports and stuff.

I cannot imagine using a DSLR without a touchscreen (I'd prefer the multi-angle monitor than a fixed one)! It makes changing settings a lot more faster than if you were to use the dials! And when it comes to the focus adjusting for video, the touch screen on the 70D makes it very easy to manage!

The 7D Mk II is impressive, but the fixed screen and with it not having a touch screen turned me off. I'd rather stick with my 70D for now (hopefully the 80D will have 1080p60!).

Thanks for the review.

In my opinion the 7D MKII has better image quality than the 70D. The newer sensor is more efficient and 'brighter' and the ISO is improved. I don't like going above 800 on the 70D but the 7D MK II I can go to 1200-1600 comfortably without getting the 'shitty' feeling that IQ has been compromised. Get the exposure right and you can push to 3200 ISO. For a cropped sensor...that's pretty remarkable.

The AF system, 10FPS, improved ISO performance, build quality and weather sealing makes the 7D MKII a worthy upgrade. The video performance is fine - slightly hampered by the omission of a touch screen etc....but I'm not bothered by this. Video is not my main interest. Besides, have you tried using the touch screen outside when its raining? I have....and its not the beautiful experience you might think. Unknown to me the exposure compensation feature became enabled and I did a days shooting in overcast whether with wonderfully underexposed images. Thank you touchscreen.

Too bad they missed the touch screen functions, it definitely makes it easier to the beginners although I know that the 7dm2 is not intended to be made for beginers. Hmmm it's hard to approach to the next level this way!

In my opinion, if someone is going to compare sensors for their noise results, one should compare same2same, means: FullFrame2FullFrame or APS-C2APS-C, also considering, that APS-C in canon or nikon is slightly different.
If you want to compare FF to APS-C, you should calculate the sensor effectivity (takes respect to the crop factor in the calculation) - with the result, that a EOS 7D Mark II has about the noise rating of the Nikon D810.
Nowadays the sensors are very developed already and we can't expect a progress of 2 stops by a new generation of sensors all day.

ZY Productions did you have a problem at your 70d at the center focus point in your still images?

I have decided to go with the 6d and 7d mark II. I find they compliment each other very well. About the same price as the canon 5d mark III but much better IMO.

Excellent review!
Do you recall the time it took for the buffer to clear when shooting RAW on the 7Dii?
