Budget EG K23 Turbo Dyno
By Brian Gillespie and Aaron Gaghagen

It’s time to tune the limp mode out of out Budget EG Civic! If you remember our last update we got this K23/K20 turbo swap running, but since we were running a naturally aspirated tune the computer kept going into limp mode. That drastically reduced our driving fun. As soon as the boost would come on it would fall flat on its face.

Awesome to see this. Just bought an RSX that was tuned by Tim. Never met him but love the tune.

When I did an ECU swap on my K24 Accord, the right radiator fan stopped working because apparently Honda switched to ECU fan control mid-generation for a tiny bit more fuel efficiency. one fan isn't enough in PHX in the summer.

The way fans are set up on aluminum radiators are a big big catalyst on how they will perform. If you just have a fan slaps to the fins with no shrouding you're probably going to have a heat soaked radiator where the edges are so hot but the center is cool. When it comes to the timing cover from what I know they're made out of aluminum and you can't bend aluminum you can only crack it, so it can be something as simple as the Honda Bond application.

The want to retrofit this to my 8th gen is real.

Except top mount intercooler. We don’t need major boost but 8psi on a 270hp k20/k24 sounds like a perfect complement. Or a potential explosion

The rabbit radiator that Robert and you suggested is still working great with my AWD turbo K swap EF sedan. Temps rarely get over 200°.

I have a acura rdx and I've been looking at the sh-awd drive cars with the v6 and was thinking about pulling the v6 and dropping in the k23 from a rdx and throwing in a larger set of injectors and taking baby off the chain with a nice set of running shoes and making me the ultimate sleeper

Not sure there is a rad big enough for these k24s. Mine jets up to 190 and once the fans on, it doesn't like to cool until it's moving outside of traffic. Going to try a hood vent to see if that stops my issues.

Brian, what did you find out about the TurboSmart kompact recirculating valve? Planning out FMIC for my RDX and was going to use that as I have had good luck with it in the past. That's 2" hot side 2.5" cold side charge pipe and 3" intake correct?

What I learned today, cure for limp mode = Vtec viagra! 😂

I wonder how much power it made on that run. Maybe not enough manifold vacuum to the blow off valve maybe 🤔

What does it take to go E85? I have RDX injectors, Walbro pump, KTuned rail/regulator. Do you have to have that ethanol sensor?

Would love to see you do an auto build with the k23 auto box too, see if it fits.

Did you use the k20 bottom for transmission connection?

Extremely promising results so far. This is going to be quick and feel fast on the butt dyno.
I better order a head for my 3G whilst I'm at it.

Maybe a different radiator/intercooler combo?

A full size radiator would definitely help with cooling.
