“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.

Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.

Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.

Welcome to the Young Nails family!

I had a client like that. Kept her for 2 yrs even though I felt sick to my stomach on every day when I seen her name in my schedule on the day she was booked. after 2 years, I told her she needed to find a new tech, and she was furious. Said noone else would do her nails the way I did.etc
She was the first person I ever did that with, and I was soooo relieved she was gone. I have never had one like her since, and I am soooo glad I finally stopped working on her.

I pick on myself enough, so definitely don’t need a customer doing it. 😂😂 really enjoyed your talk. 👏👏 thank you.

I have a small board with my nail shapes on them. That way people know what I think is the shape and they can pick the one they want.

I have a client who always puts her monocles every time I do her nails. She’s a nice lady but goodness she is picky as heck. “Polish under the nail tips, polish under the side walls, you forgot the corners, the smile line doesn’t match up with this one, this one is a little higher than this one”

I am a perfectionist but she is definitely taking it to another level. She is making me fall behind on my other clients and I just don’t know what else to do because after when I FINALLY fix everything she does end up happy. She doesn’t pay a lot of money for her nails lol this is a family owned nail salon so this is your typical $30 set, I’m at my wits end.. help me!

As you always say, clear and straight communication makes the difference

I don't mind if they are picky if it's legit. Because sometimes you can overlook something. And they pay for good beautiful nails. And I fix it if it's legit. But when a client comes back and praising you for your work and then says ; the other nailtech was cheaper and I got the glitter for free. I'm a very direct person, so I look at them( even be busy with their 💅) and then I say : first; I'm not the other nailtech and second; that's why you keep coming back 🙃 and then I procede with there nails. And I tell them never to say that to me again 🤔

I had that happen to me about 4 months ago. I was with a client for 6 hours because she was so picky. Of course she also had a pedicure, but when I did her enhancements, she was super picky! I cut her off right after that. Not dealing with that kind of energy lol

I love Tracey's commitment to open communication. And she is great about setting boundaries. It sounds like a lot of clients come in with unrealistic expectations. I am a mental health professional who deals with these issues myself in my work. Speaking in the "I form" helps. For example, "I am sorry you are not pleased with your service, " or "I heard you say you wanted your artwork to look....etc." Although I am not a nail tech, I think that a beginner would benefit from setting boundaries and using clear communication, at the start of their career. One final suggestion: there are many videos here on YouTube that talk (and provide training) about "Active Listening." Work on listening skills in addition to refining your acrylic and gel skills! :)

I haven’t gotten there yet with a picky client since I’m a beginner and practicing my work on family members for free. And I’m already thinking about giving my “customers” names. My mom tried snagging my brush from my hand to correct what SHE wanted and I told her “Uhh-Uhh! Did you just try snagging my brush?” She said “nooo” I said “don’t snag my brush or I will call you the brush snagger “ sooo it’s already happening 🙄🙄🙄😓

How to deal with picky clients: send them too me!!😂😅 I’m definitely a perfectionist. I’ve given up trying to let it go; it’s just never gonna happen. So now I’m just working on getting faster 😂

Most of the pickiness I've experienced has been more education-related, rather than my actual work ("Put *the product* on my skin", "Cut this off", "I don't like those drills", "I bleed every time someone does a manicure on me...")
I do, however, need to work on my own pickiness, as I get in my head way too much, always thinking I could've or should've done something differently.

I deal with it by crying when I get home 😂

I had a client that was picky about nude colors....and it was an eternal debate over the perfect nude color taking into consideration she brings me an edited photo from pinterest so the color changes slightly when the photo is originally edited 🙃🤣 the arguments an trials on color theory got me
