That's not quite right. It has two screens, but only one display mechanism/component. Still a fun fact though!

I thought it was 2-Dimensional system until I learned it was dual screen

No it wasn't to cut cost, but to have that slim gap between the screens. If you would use two single ones, you need to space them furter apart, because of the LCD case/border.

The DS in Nintendo 2/3DS stands for "Dimensional Screens"
The 3 Dimensional Screen slider was the main gimmick of the Nintendo 3DS but unfortunately, barely any games used it. Because of that, it ended up being forgotten😔

I know! It’s simpler to repair than any hinged ds!
