Attack Angle - How To Add Distance Without Swinging Faster

Gene Parente of Golf Labs here with an important lesson on the attack angle and how a small adjustment in our ball position can lead to longer AND straighter drives.

So what is the angle of attack?

Well, we don't hit a golf ball on a level or linear plane. Our swing path's angle goes from negative on the downswing to neutral to positive on the upswing. Our research shows most professional golfers hit up on the golf ball and have a positive attack angle with the driver. That is why the ball flight is so high even with a 7 or an 8 degree lofted driver.

Conversely, most amateurs' data reveals a negative angle of attack, as they hit down on the ball. This is typically caused by outside to in swing path and throwing off or casting of the club.

So how do we change our angle of attack?

Good news, it's simple! Just move the ball forward in your stance. Gene recommends experimenting with one inch forward and moving the ball position forward no more than two inches. The result your after is a straighter, higher, and longer ball flight.

Who doesn't want that!

When I look at the Trackman PGA tour averages, they say average attack angle is -1.3 degrees. Why the discrepancy?
