Routing audio, especially on Windows, at the application and virtual device level, is absolutely not an “entry level consumer problem” — unlike MacOS, Windows does not have the ability to create virtual / aggregate or multi output interfaces out of the box.

Voicemeeter macros are incredible, though. I have turned an Akai APC mini mk2 into a stream deck alternative… although I’ll admit is was more compelling to have the macro+faders option prior to the stream deck+

Yeah, VoiceMeeter is super confusing...and super powerful. For most people it's not the right solution, for others it's necessary. For example, I use VoiceMeeter Potato (i.e. the big one) and I route audio from several input devices to several output devices. GG and the Wave software wouldn't be enough for me because I wouldn't have enough control over where the sound goes. If you only have two outputs, your headphones and your stream, VoiceMeeter is not the solution. If you're trying to do anything more, VoiceMeeter is invaluable.

I bought a license 2 years ago but stop using it after I switched from USB mic input to a mixer via XLR. I didn't like how the mic was compressed in the software. Also, the lag made the mic monitoring unusable. But it's really great as a sound board that works with the Stream Deck! So worth it for that!

I think the word anti-consumer although not the most specific word does from a general notion fits it well. The software is designed to be used by both pro and non-pro, but at current it's not suitable for non-pro without extensive learning.

I honestly thought the software suite replaced a hardware solution that now no longer exists and the mixer Voice Meter Patato is a legacy from this tech supported system that streamers found useful and is maintained as donation ware.
Cudos to the devs for keeping it alive for us until someone is as kind and makes us something better and as affordable.

Voicemeeter works well. It's a pain to set up initially to do what you want, but once done it's solid until you change something.. some things need to be a bit more customizable, including the overall theme. Not a fan of having to buy another license when upgrading pc either.

As soon as you give voicemeeter a little time and energy, it soon becomes very simple to use but the average consumer today is just too impatient. More often than not theres no time to be learning and setting up software like voicemeeter but i think its good especially for a dual pc setup where you dont have a mixer to tie audio from two pc’s together

I use it for teaching music and without it my life would be a nightmare. It needs to be as complicated as it is for my purposes, and I haven't found any other software that does everything i need it to do on Windows.

Voicemeeter is great, but it consistently has crackle in discord for me, so its really not an option.
Wish sonar had an option to just slap a flat 10db on my mic, id use that instead in an instant.

This is like an eternal problem with open sources and donation software lol, gimp, voicemeter, Linux etc etc etc are just very hard to use because they don't have a whole ass department that does testing and feedback like paid software.
