It’s hard for a warrior to rest after the war is over...She doesn’t want to lose her momentum. Nothing to be ashamed about there.

I kind of have this same problem. The trauma of being broke or being financially ruined never really goes away.

A frugal person turns off the lights when leaving a room.

A tightwad turns off the lights when entering the room.

I completely understand this woman 110% (minus the divorce). I used to have no problem spending my entire paycheck. Buying what I wanted that was "affordable" and barely living paycheck to paycheck. Now, after some experiences and growing up, with over 25k saved and some invested, I'm scared that if I spend $100 today, I'll be broke tomorrow.

At 52 I can so relate to this. Not divorced but similar to what Dave went through with his wife. And yes 20 years later if I see signs or hints I go on defense mode. It will cause an argument at times. But it’s far better. I’m still afraid to spend money and have to be pushed to ‘treat’ myself and be told I’m worth it or it’s OK to. I fully empathize with a caller. She’s a warrior. It’s hard for us to not be. Not sure you ever do once a warrior always a warrior but but she hast to learn to lay down the sword once in a while knowing it’s safe to because she can trust herself. Congrats for getting where she is and I wish her only the best. 👏🙏

It is true what Dave said, I was married to a man who controls all the business money and finally, did not give me my share of 20% earnings, for 1, 1/2 years. I was broke after using all my savings for food and expenses.I had to borrow money from my brother and did the business without him. It is kind of hard when you are married and living in the same house. I finally had to move out and divorce him after, he tried to kill me. The trauma was so real that even after, I am married to my wonderful husband, I want to keep our money separate. I pay for half of everything and I just do not want to argue about money.

My nursing teacher always said "scar tissue is structural not functional". This applies to well to Dave's theory in this video. You will always have the burden of that scar tissue from your past, and although it will hinder and not help, it will always be with you as a reminder of your past, present and future goals.

I dont recall if she said how many years have passed, but this is like PTSD. It will take time to get over it.

Sounds like she’s learned to value the money and freedom and independence more than others and the “things” money can purchase for her.

I think she did a beautiful job of getting back on her feet. Start small and test yourself good....

This is a hard situation. She needs to go to counseling so she can work on the inner voice to give herself the love she needs. Counseling only helps and doesn't make someone weak. It makes them stronger for wanting to be better.

Often times you must act before you believe. That leap of faith will make you realize the things you want and the things you don’t want. You must do. Thinking is great, rumination is not.

I’m in bs7 and feel like a tightwad. She sees the true value of the money she has earned.

I have this problem too! Save money to spend on what matters, but don't save money for the sake of saving money.

Once I made the decision to become debt free, I made it my life’s mission to be successful. I am...debt free!

I feel the same way! I barely spend money on anything that’s is not “necessary”. I guess you can call me a minimalist
