As a Vegetarian from India where being vegetarian is a very traditional/ conservative idea and not a leftist ideology like in America.
I completely agree with this guy.

I am 6 feet 2 inches tall and weigh 100 kg . Reasonably strong . Have been vegetarian since birth. Currently 25 years old and am perfectly healthy, no deficiency of any sort. Hemoglobin of 14.8 and normal lipid profile. I was a state level swimmer in my high school days. Have stopped competitive swimming since 10 years hence the weight gain .
I am an MBBS doctor working as a medical officer in my hometown and preparing to get into a residency program of my choice.

So even though all this evidence might sound anecdotal but unless we are very different genetically, it applies to most people as well.

One can have a perfectly normal Healthy life on a vegetarian diet. Also there are no avocadoes in India or at least in my diet. My diet includes Milk and milk products on most days but not daily and dry fruits and nuts rarely. No protein powder or health supplement of any sort. No soy. No Mushroom. Don't like their taste. Mainly I eat grains ( roti, rice) and legumes (lentils, sprouts) with some vegetables and fruits when available, which is mostly our local cuisine.

So from my experience and most of the vegetarians in India, I can confidently say that a vegetarian diet not being as nutritive as non vegetarian meat based diet is a complete farce. Also fruits and vegetables, legumes, grains are very cheap and affordable in India as the demand and supply match. If other Western countries wanted to increase fruits and vegetable farming it's very much possible but from what I have seen this anti vegan, anti vegetarian propoganda is mostly due to the meat industry lobbying in such countries.

Nutritionally speaking there is no advantage of Non vegetarian over Vegetarian.
On the contrary the non vegetarian meat based diet can be more harmfull in the long run. Speaking in terms of Cardiovascular risk and Malignancies.

2 things: “all the epidemiologic data” is not a statement that should be used to state fact. We know the downfalls of relying solely on epidemiological data. And “health outcome evidence” is also a murky field that is greatly affected by the context in which the studies are performed. If you’re going to make such a grandiose statement, you need to back it up with more than this generic sentiment

Also, it is true that plants contain all amino acids. He is wrong, however, in implying that this means we can get adequate quantities of the essential amino acids from solely whole plant foods. Not only are there less of them than in animal foods, they are less bioavailable as most are bound up in plant matrices that make it harder to extract all the protein out (cooking helps this some but not fully). This means that even if vegetarians/vegans do get 70-80 grams (roughly the RDA which is known to undermine protein needs), they would actually require more grams of protein to achieve the necessary amount of essential amino acids compared to those eating animals. In my opinion, in a time where sarcopenia and osteoporosis are skyrocketing, it is an important distinction to make

Animal protein is way more bioavailable - it's indisputable. This guy is raising a strawman argument.

I’ve been vegan 10.5 years and I’ve got borderline low iron and I supplement. I’d agree meat protein is useful for its benefits but the detriments for me outweigh the benefits, and for several reasons including health, environment, compassion, I’m plant based.

Hot take, trying to constantly preach and persuade people to eat a certain way doesnt make it seem so amazing.

Sounds good now how do we get rid of the chemicals we don't need ???

Imagine drinking protein shakes that were made in a plant, instead of just eating a rib eye.

I am curious are vegans and vegetarians more conscious about their protein?

Both diets are fine. Just get blood work done a few times a year to check I have been a NON VEGAN for over 50 years. A few times I did vegan and keto. I just lost weight, but I didn't get blood work and didn't really like it. I get my blood checked several times a year and I eat meat, eggs, and dairy never really sick. Ill stick with just eating regular healthy meals

The good plants he is talking about stopped growing since 1973. Everything today is sprayed with a dozen toxic pesticides.

And the vegetarian diet I ate caused terrible inflammation and mad me fat. Then I went carnivore. Boom. All better.

Wrong. Meat is considered higher quality because a single piece of steak includes all the essential amino acids. You have to eat a very varied vegan diet to not be deficient and you also need to eat a ton of it. Not only that but according to the DIAAS plants are not nearly as digestible as meats meaning the amount of protein you think your getting is actually less. We’re talking average 40-60% absorption compared to meats which is like 100%+. Potatoes are the only vege as high as meats and milk. So many vegans are deficient because they can’t eat the amount of food needed to reach appropriate amino acid levels meaning veganism isn’t sustainable even in modern society that provides an abundance of genetically modified fruit and vege that’s always in “season”.

I was vegan for five years and believed this. But While plant protein is great, having both plant and animal protein is absolutely ideal
