Chargers hate him! Use this one weird trick to kill chargers with ANY GUN! It's easy to clear helldive using the spear for example when you can dispatch of chargers using this trick in those awkward situations. The anti material rifle, sickle, autocannon, incendiary breaker, machine guns, can all do this much faster and you can use any gun in the game to dispatch of pesky chargers. #helldivers2

It might partly be a hit box glitch but since you are getting more consistent results while its turning, I do know the charger's joints are actually not armored, just barely due to how the armor is layered. I recall seeing this on a tutorial on where to aim if you want to use the autocannon to harm them, easiest to hit the exposed leg joints from behind when they've missed a charge on you provided you can line up the shot fast enough. So that might be whats happening is your managing to hit the exposed joints, or the projectiles are ricochet off the armor into the joints which while unlikely is also possible.

The telltale sign for the "missing armor" bug seems to be after the "slide" animation.

You can see at 2:15 it doesn't slide, and its armor is still present. Then afterwards, it misses and slides, and it has no armor

The armor desync has been known since launch. It happens during that point in the animation, but I have no idea why.

Old stuff. The "leg meta" is one of the reasons Arrowhead nerfed Chargers head health. Because we should not aim at the legs. Still, a great tactic.

Not long after the game first dropped I saw a few people on a “how to kill a charger with an auto cannon” video say the armor de syncs when it turns around

also, laser cannon to the back of a chargers leg will melt it pretty quickly

Guessing the pivot turn leg damage is likely because the armor is on the front of the leg, and combined with client server latency. I'm sure you've noticed plenty of times when damage is delayed, or when the stim sound activates but you don't consume a stim, etc etc. So as the charger pivots we can access it's damage point before it's armor direction due to lag in the order of calculations.

Just a theory.

Its difficult to pull off but I've had a fair amount of success narrowly avoiding the charge, running behind them and throwing an eagle airstrike down. By the time they fully turn around and either walk towards or start charging animation, theyre right on the beacon.
Great guide though, will have to try this!!!

Thank you for this. An on-screen table with weapon and number of hits would've been godly but I understand if you have a life :P

I bet the armor is it's own separate overlay and when turning is doesn't cover the hitbox of the "meat."

Hey, I think what you’re actually doing is shooting the inside of its legs and the inside of its legs (the sides of the legs facing towards its body) have lighter armor

i wish we had a legit and formalised/official way to strip/shred down armour via in-game effects but atm this is the closest we have and it feels like an animation/mesh glitch.
i still think that the railgun should have never lost its safe heavy-pen, THAT factor was a massive over-nerf, the damage & RoF i didn't mind due to the one-weapon-to-rule-them-all (except tanks turrets, gunships and titans now) advantages the railgun still holds, what we really need are ways to turn a heavy armour into something more vulnerable to other weapons without the thing that does so also being able to 2-3 shot the enemy on it's lonesome. Removing the armour and piercing THROUGH said armour should be 2 entirely different mechanics in the game.

That way more teamplay/co-ordination, less REQUIRING 2-3 people in a team to bring one of 4-5 AV/heavy-pen support-weapons to deal with the enemies more numerous than the ammo available (in B4 the quaso cannon gets a cooldown nerf and 3-5 minute cooldowns are NOT enough to deal with 3-4 heavy enemies PER MINUTE no matter how much the devs once claimed the opposite) and maybe free up some room for more anti-horde/swarm.
That said EVERYONE bringing a backpack AND a support weapon is excessive, people you can live without one or the other for 8 minutes and then get access to an additional 1-5 strats per-team.

I hope this stays a feature and not a bug fix down the road. I wonder if the new thermite grenade is gonna be a 1 shot kill to charger heads / legs. Even if its 2 thermites to kill a charger, thats 3 charger kills with the grenade armor and 4 more charger kills with a supply pack.

I wonder if the HMG can pen the Leg Armor.... Obviously it can rip the Charger a new Bum but its a question worth asking. Plus im too busy HOLDING OFF THE BOT OFFENIVE TO TEST IT MYSELF!
