Hmmmm I've lived in NOLA pretty much all my life and I honestly don't agree with any of these. Lol

None of these items are true local fare, besides CDM and the poboy. What about muffulettas, gumbo, and fried seafood platters?

Cafe dumonde is Great, but the one in the quarter outside the square is TRRRRASSHHH bro. Too many customers causing rushed production, the beignets are often too crunchy, and hollow, which they should NEVER be. Cafe beignet on royal has fantastic beignets, and I’ve noticed the cafe dumonde in city park is one of the better locations for fluffier beignets.

I had a recommendation in NOLA for an old-timey gumbo place where the servers had this really old spirit to them. "What's in gumbo?" We asked. "I don't know, that's why they call it gumbo!". I tried to find it a year later and I searched every street but it was gone, nowhere to be found. I'm now convinced it was the ghosts of a restaurant that burned down who came back every year on the anniversary of the fire to serve us gumbo from the beyond.

Nah bro as someone who's from here you have to take a mini detour to the 7th ward. They have the best fried chicken at Manchu on Claiborne (yes, the location does matter), and for breakfast they have this place called Bearcat Cafe. My personal favorite is the Hot Rob, but if you're in town check it out! Other good places I'd recommend are Who Dat Wings and More, Plum Street Snowballs (you have to try a snowball!), Dooky Chase (a piece of Black History, owner was the inspiration for Princess Tiana in Princess and Frog), PeeWee's Crabcakes (if you're into unique seafood dishes), and pretty much anywhere for seafood.

Short stop po boys on transcontinental and airline hwy. Has the best roast beef. Hands down. I lived there for 40 years. Trust me. Camellia grill is a must for breakfast.

Cafe Du Monte is easily the most overrated place to eat in New Orleans. They always overcook them, I’m sure they were once good but they’re the worst in the city and it’s just a tourist location now.

Must try Cafe Reconcile in the lower garden district. Only lunch, only weekdays, but insanely good! Their gumbo, is delicious, their fried chicken insane and the fried turkey necks, unbelievable!

Thank you so much for recommending good restaurants to tourists, most tourists just come to nola and get drunk on bourbon and wonder why they didn’t have a good time in nola. Thank you for recommending good spots

Born and raised NOLA and this is the first "what you have to eat in NOLA" that's actually good. You killed it.

I have to admit this is a really solid list. People try to hate on parkway but it's lives up to the hype. Get the 50/50 shrimp / oyster dressed

as someone who’s grown up in new orleans and lives there, there are sooo many better places for beignets than cafe du monde, ofc go there for the hat and touristy stuff but PJS coffee house has beignets 100x better and so do most local cafes ❤

Sarita's in New Orleans has the best Empanada you will ever taste. Everything on the menu is exceptional. And the home made salsa and hot sauces are perfect. Sarah the owner is friendly. You will not regret if you are uptown, look them up

Cafe Du Monde is a really great cafe, but if you go to the one in the french quarter, there's usually a pretty long line to get inside, its worth the wait tho!
