The seventies were the dark ages. That's the perceived wisdom, but look at how the gay character is portrayed, they never laugh at him for being gay. Everyone gets on, and everyone likes to laugh.
They were happier times than the times we have now.

You'd never get away with this today, which is really unfortunate. There's a difference between laughing at someone or something in hate and derision and laughing with something or someone and celebrating our quirks and differences together. It seems we've lost the ability to tell the difference anymore, unfortunately. Racism, bigotry, sexism and homophobia all exist and should be rejected outright, but if we can't laugh at ourselves anymore, we're in big trouble.

Everything about this show was amazing comedy...love it!

and now we come to the poof, which caused Mr. Humphries to faint. And when Mr. Harmon described the big chest as being outwardly in good condition, once used by a lot of soldiers, and having odd things in the drawers that nearly caused Mrs. Slocombe to faint dead away with shock.
