What worked for me was updating the following in the config file:
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d -> dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d

"Changing the dtoverlay setting from vc4-kms-v3d to vc4-fkms-v3d might help resolve HDMI issues because the FKMS driver is more compatible with the firmware and other DispmanX programs12345. However, please note that the effectiveness of this change can depend on various factors, including the specific version of the Raspberry Pi OS you’re using"

Brilliant! It worked. Initially flashed the raspberry pi screen then went dark... your solution was perfect.

I don’t have that in my config.txt at all

This might be the most stupid answer, but I wasted 3 days with troubleshooting just to find the following solution: If your Raspberry Pi is in a case, make sure that it's screwed in correctly and that the HDMI Pin reaches deep enough into the port. To check, unscrew it from the case and try booting it

This is ridiculous, why does my computer display just fine but the pi you have to edit config files to match your monitor?

But does this work when you use a piboy ? Since it's not a big screen this resolution wouldn't make it suddenly boot would it?

Thank you!!!! I didn’t install the SD card after installing the ribbon cable and gpio cables on the 7” touch screen, I thought it was on the fritz! Put in the SD card and the screen booted right up. Sorry if that seems like a no brainier, this was my first time building anything like this in the electronics department, my area of autistic expertise is in the firearm department lol.
