My friend blacked out his sleeve just because he had a falling out with his artist, the sleeve was clean work too. Treat your customers right.

I only have one tattoo even though I dreamed of having more. Why did I stop at one? Because the artist was incredibly cruel. Referred to the art I picked as “juvenile” (it’s an adventure time design) and kept poking fun at me for wincing and shaking in pain. It was on my ribs. The most painful spot. Every time I look at my tattoo I can see his face. Mocking me.

Same with the second answer for me! It's a mix of the tattoo itself and the artist. He changed up a bunch of details, got lazy with the linework, and used a completely different skin tone for the character I got tattooed and when i told him i was unhappy with it and pointed out that the colors were wrong he got really defensive. I kinda like my tattoo but I regret how much money I spent for the quality I got, both in the artist and the work

Treating a client well is so important. I got some work done a few years ago, got a really not chill vibe from my artist (it’s a shame as they were a brilliant tattooist) never been back.

Found my artist for life now. He’s super friendly, super skilled and just a nice chill guy. It helps a lot with getting returning clients if you’re not a a-hole.

I only regret one of my tattoos because the person doing it failed to inform me they were a 19yr old apprentis and I was actually his first human canvas. Worst of all its a sternum tattoo and the lines are all fucked up. He physically laid on top of me like full body contact and he still screwed up. I won't go back to that shop at all that was a genuinely horrible experience.

All of my tattoo experiences have been, unfortunately, negative ones because of the tattoo artists. Zero communication, lack of confidence on both ends, withholding information, being under an influence while doing a tattoo, and just the work in general being poor. And being a person who is an artist and extremely non-confrontational it's a major struggle when trying to find other tattoo artists I can trust. I also want to have a professional and well thought out plan with the artist but both times they just slapped it on with little to no planning, were very cold during, and seemed as if they didn't care if the piece was half assed or not

The second one is exactly why I only go to artists that I vibe with. I’m sure most artists in my area are good at their craft, but I don’t go to them because I don’t want my tattoo forever stained by sitting in a room for 1-10 hours with some jerk who talks down on people or talks bad about others. I went to get a tattoo with me and my sister, during her tattooing I talked to the guy. Over the 1.5-2 hour tattoo I learned he was incredibly racist and homophobic. And when I look at my tattoo in the future I don’t want to say “that was done by someone who would hate crime me if they knew I was gay.”

Reading these comments makes me so thankful for my tattoo artists. He’s super nice guy that I can’t even imagine being rude, and he’s talented.

I want a tattoo but I'm a punk so it won't happen

Definitely! I love my tats, but I regret one because the artist butchered the design I wanted. Still looked alright, but never again. And same story as the second artist, I didn't have the greatest experience with the person who did it.

The second one, I couldn't agree more, I had an *amazing* tattoo artist, funny, kind and understanding, and there is overall a good environment in the shop, I didn't believe when they said "if you get one you will want to get more" but it's true, I didn't even thought about a second tattoo until I got my first 😂
