The medieval Japanese martial art of Naginata is being kept alive in Japan today by high school girls. The naginata, a wooden staff with a curved blade attached, is a weapon from the Samurai period. In battle, it would be used to bring down a horse, but it was also favored by wives of the Samurai who kept a naginata at home for protection.

Naginata is a pollarm weapon native to Japan. It's basically a spear, but with a blade, so you are slashing more than stabbing. The reason there are all girls is because in the days of the Samurai, female Samurai were permitted use of this weapon to defend the Home. Female Samurai on the battlefield were super rare. What they are yelling is they are calling the blows much like Kendo.

Shin Naginata is not an ancient martial art any more than Kendo is an ancient martial art. Both are gendai, not Koryu.
