Welcome to Engineering Hack! Today's video explores a system that has two collars tied together by a pulley and a rope. The idea is to create position vectors that allow us to predict how the velocity and the acceleration of the collars will change. We also go into the concept of relative velocity in an introductory manner with a simple case question. Collar & Pulley Structure - Determine Acceleration and Velocities (problem 11.53). Kinematics is the study of the geometry of motion. The principles of kinematics relate Newton's laws to displacement, velocity, acceleration, and time of a body’s motion, without worrying about what caused the motion in the first place.

Problem statement: Collar A starts from rest and moves upward with a constant acceleration. Knowing that after 8 s, the velocity of collar B with respect to collar A is 0.6 m/s. Determine (a) the accelerations of A and B, (b) the velocity and change in position of B after 6 s.

Answer:
Accel. a = -1/20 m/s² (upward)
Accel. b = 1/40 m/s² (downward)
Vel b @t = 6s = 0.15 m/s
Y b = 0.45 m
