I literally volunteer for the Harris campaign so I’m in no way defending Trump, but to be clear, it’s not a “tax increase” - Harris used that phrase as an analogy and now everyone who doesn’t understand economics is saying it as if that’s what it is. It’s a tariff, which means companies exporting to the United States have to pay more to get their goods into the country. The reality of tariffs is that the price is pushed onto the consumer in almost all cases because the company will just raise consumer prices to compensate and not take any net profit loss. Also I believe Trump’s proposition is not 10% across the board, it’s varying per industry and company - he recently said he’ll tariff John Deere 200% if they start manufacturing more in Mexico 😭 it’s a terrible policy, even Mitch McConnell is against it, but to be clear it’s not a tax, it’s a tariff.
