For everybody asking "why he didn't read the books"...you're probably too young to remember or simply didn't pay much attention back in the 90s/early 2000s.Each movie came out give or take 4-5ish years after each book. Alan Rickman considered quitting after the 2nd movie. That meant that 3 whole more books (and their subsequent movie adaptions), were not released out to the world yet, as they were not yet written.That's why nobody knew spoilers from books 3 to 5.

She 100% told him he was in love with Harry’s mother and bullied by Harry’s father.. for an Actor of Alan’s calibre he wanted a character with more complexity.. at that point Snape was simply the mean teacher which was fairly generic and vapid.
