Bow Won't tighten - replace the eyelet

Violin, Viola, Cello and string bass bow eyelets sometimes strip out and need to be replaced. In today’s video I show you how this is done.

You can order bow eyelets from various online vendors but be aware there are different thread pitches available. If you KNOW your thread pitch, it’s easy to buy the right one…but if you don’t have a thread pitch gauge then order an eyelet with a new screw so you’re certain they match. When you order them together, you’ll replace both the eyelet AND the screw.

Have a repair question you’d like answered? Just leave a comment, write me an email or follow and message me on Instagram at RepairMasterclass.

Till next time, play it loud and play it a lot!

Music on today’s video is from Podington Bear.

That was amazing. I am shocked that i was actually able to fix my bow so easily. I can't believe i even had an old frog to take apart. THANK YOU!!

Best use pliers instead of the screw, to prevent gouging liner with screw teeth, or accidentally damaging threads of screws and eyelets. It’s easy to prevent those by using narrow pliers to unscrew an eyelet. :-)
