I saw this in theaters yesterday for the 20th anniversary showing. When Gandalf knocks out Denethor, the whole theater burst into applause. Plus, seeing Gandalf ride up the wall, survey the enemy, and exclaim "send these foul beasts into the abyss" was epic.

You know the one thing about Lord of the Rings that'll never be beaten by any film is how real it all feels. It's like this is actual footage and the combat lore really stands out in these scenes with the feeling of desperate last stands and perfect camera angling. It really is the only films where I feel like this whole thing actually took place long ago.

I think trebuchets are more effective if they used a more spherical projectile to allow it to roll onto the rows of enemies. But I guess castle chunks work well too like in this movie.

The Steward giving the order for the soldiers to abandon their posts and ignoring Pippin when he said that Faramir was alive…I understand the decisions were born of sadness and despair

But I couldn’t help but be angry like Gandalf, he’s a pitiful excuse for a lord…and even moreso as a father

I have both unextended and extended i can say if anyone is to get the film get the extended version it is way better it doesnt randomly skip 5 minutes of footage like the original
