We have a cute bookstore around here that does a blind date with a book and it's super fun. They are just wrapped in brown paper with random buzzwords on them to give you a general idea of the contents. You get a free drink coupon with it for their coffee shop. i've done it a few times and found some great reads.

Cozy mysteries can kind of seem like they're for kids, but they aren't really :P They're just kind of cute and charming, and they won't be creepy or gory like regular thrillers can be. They aren't always the best writing ever, but they're usually fun and a nice little light escape.

Where the red fern grows ruined a LOT of childhoods. Schools liked to force us to read story’s that would invoke intense emotional reactions. I still steer clear of books that contain animals for fear of death scenes that will forever live in my head.

This reinforces what I've commented before: stick with the subscriptions you're enjoying (Fab Fit Fun, Decorate, I-scream, P Louise etc) and try some new independent ones as one-offs. Then keep on with the ones of those you really enjoy. Also, you appear to have added book reviews, which could be fun.
