Ancient Rome continues to captivate us with its grandeur, complexity, and mysteries. While most of us envision the Colosseum, gladiators, and regal togas, there is a myriad of lesser-known details that make Rome even more intriguing. Imagine a society where only free-born citizens could wear the iconic toga, and homes were warmed using a unique underfloor heating system. Fascinatingly, urine served as a vital laundry cleaning agent, and their largest stadium wasn't the Colosseum, but the Circus Maximus, accommodating 300,000 spectators. Bathing, an activity deemed private today, was a communal affair for Romans. Amidst the ornate structures, the city was mostly constructed with timber, necessitating its own fire brigade. Lastly, contrary to popular belief, Rome’s statues and columns were not monochrome but painted vibrantly, reflecting the city's colorful character.

Of course Rome had its own Fire Brigade. What would they do if a fire broke out without one, ask the fire to stay where it was so they could go to the closest town and ask for their fire brigade to help?
