In the final fight of my last campaign our Divine Soul sorcerer started the fight by casting Holy Aura. At certain point in the fight, the final boss was able to make copies of our characters that we had to fight. My character was notorious for rolling critical hits and critical failures. At one point my character was fighting his copy.... and the copy attacked and crit my character through the disadvantage of Holy Aura.

The only thing powerful enough to defeat was me.

I like Regenerate. In our campaign, the minotaur in our group broke one horn fairly early in the campaign. Right before we faced off against the BBEG, we levelled up and I got access to 7th level spells. I helped him grow back his horn for the final fight. It was a tender moment.

There's yet another offensive measure with Gate to consider. It specifies that you can orient the gate in any direction you choose. This means that with certain planar knowledge, the spell also gets utility applications.

Position it at a high point, angle it diagonally and have it open to the elemental plane of water for a massive torrent of force capable of knocking back or outright killing enemies, dousing city wide fires, destroying buildings and more.

You can make it horizontally on the ground and now you have a hole to knock enemies into. Since you can position it at any point within the plane, make it an impossibly long fall. Or just connect to the elemental plane of fire and forget your problems.

It's not one of the spells you listed, but I did have a great moment with a high-level cleric in a campaign a while back. The encounter went something like this:

DM: "You come down the hallway, and you see before you on a throne made of dragon bones, <insert BBEG>, his frail body being held upright by tendrils of magical energy, his form being given a sort of life by the throne itself. Beside and in front of him are four mechanical guardians, standing sentry to guard him from anything coming his way.

Me: "Uh, Mr. DM... I have a spell that will pretty much end this encounter immediately. Is it going to ruin your fun if I cast it?"

DM: "If it's something reasonable for your character to use, go for it."

Me, on my turn: "Hey, Mr. Wizard pal, do you have Dimension door prepared? Yeah? good. On your turn I need you to dimension door us right into the middle of those 4 constructs. I ready the Antimagic Field spell to cast as soon as we pop out on the other side of the Dimension Door."

DM: "Oh..."

We ended up killing an Ancient Green Dragon and we had access to his treasure horde. The DM expected us just to transfer about 200k gold worth of treasure to our vault to fill it completely, but we ended up doing a favour for the gods and each of us were owed a free wish with no strings attached. So our Paladin wished for a demiplane in our vault that will allow us to take all of the treasure. The vault was on our sick ass permanent mighty fortress on top of a mobile floating island that we can control where it goes (Our Monk wished for that). So the only problem was getting the treasure there. So our Cleric decided to cast Gate. I twinned the Polymorph Spell and our Warlock True Polymorphed and we literally pushed everything into our new demiplane vault. We ended up getting 200, 000, 000 gold worth of items instead of the measly 200, 000 we were supposed to get. We became rich enough to own an entire continent thanks to our Cleric.

Mass casting of Gate is essentially the Portals scene in Avengers: Endgame. I can get behind that. :)

The RP flavor of Divine Word can bring tears to the eyes of your party.
Your party is beaten and broken, the battle lost, and the injured and dying surrounded by fiends and demon lords. Defeat is in their eyes, until your cleric looks to the heavens, closes their eyes, and quietly speaks but a single word. It is not a word of man or beast, or even anything in Celestial. It is the word of pure divinity, and it shatters through creation itself. The music of the word resonates in the air and stays there, as all other sound itself vanishes in its awe. Ally and friend alike weep at its sheer beauty, all while the demon and fiends all around you are torn asunder and ripped away to the abyss just from the presence of but a single word.
It might only have a use once in your entire campaign, but it's a moment your party will never forget.

Forbiddance quickly became one of my favorite spells when I took it as a Magical Secrets spell on my Bard. Our party was defending an outpost from a looming demon invasion, and I took this after much success with Guards and Wards.

One of the best parts of this spell is that it's a ritual spell that doesn't consume the material components on first use. So you can take lots of time to ward a MASSIVE area as long as the spell areas don't overlap. I spent multiple mornings doing this, and on the day of the invasion, it held the hordes at bay long enough for the party to head straight for the boss.

We took an airship over the area and we're attached by 2 high level demons, one of which I threw into the Forbiddance area using Telekinesis. Since she couldn't fly, it was a brutal end for her.

I would totally buy a t-shirt with a cleric saying "See you in Hell, buddy" while casting plane shift on it!

Holy Aura is one of my favorite spells, just because of what happened when I played my first cleric.

I wanted to use that spell, but needed the material components, so I asked our artificer to make me a reliquary.

Now to get the relic to put inside of it.

Do we have any relics with us?

There's the Hand of Vecna...

I used the Hand of Vecna as a component for Holy Aura in our final fight with the BBEG.

Once the spell was over the Hand reacted to it and exploded dealing 80 force damage to all of us, most of the party had a saving throw for half damage, except me cause I was holding it.

That was a fun day.

Just make a plan with an order of clerics who all also know gate. Your gate brings 10 clerics through, then their 10 gates bring 100 clerics through, then their 100 gates bring in 1000 paladins.

This also assumes you can find 100 clerics that can cast 9th level spells, but it’s fun to think about.

I found it hilarious when Kelly had to pause while saying "level 6...to 9"

The 7th level spell slots has immense competition - Fire Storm, Regenerate, and Conjure Celestial. The last one is particularly interesting, as you can pick a Coutl and benefit from the decent selection of low level spells it has.

My now more or less retired 20th level warlock, and his 20th level cleric wife's home are finishing a temple of the gods on their manor property, that is protected by forbiddence. They truly have a fortresses at their disposal.

All right, Gate is a new favorite spell of mine.
Also, imagine what might come through if a cleric of an evil deity uses this to call in reinforcements...

I’ve never played a game past level 7, so I really enjoy seeing this video series. Thank you! Keep ‘em coming!

I'm just imagining the ultimate fight setup. With Forbiddance, you run into the singulat issue that you must get the target in the area for it to be affected. If they know the area is a death trap, they might not enter it willingly.

Pop a Gate spell, force their unholy behinds into the area by the sheer power of your stubborn devotion, and mess up that BBEG without any issue whaatsoever

I love clerics. They're so versatile, and really have amazing utility and buff/debuff spells!
