Thank you all for joining me in todays video on why Walmart failed in Germany. This one comes as a massive shock to me considering how big and dominate Walmart is in the United States. Its our biggest Supermarket store and can be found just about anywhere! What were your thoughts of Walmart if you ever had the chance to go?

As a german who actually went to a german Walmart it was kind of weird. The one I went thankfully didn´t had that out of place greater, but damn "dude, you don´t need to hand a shopping cart at enter to me, I can pick my own if I even need a shopping cart". Otherwise it was an even bigger Real which was the german version of Walmart. BTW: Real isn´t really anymore either, germans either shop at supermarkets/ bio stores or disounters.

It’s not about the size of the shops why they couldn’t sell their milk cheaper than Aldi. But no retailer is allowed to sell their stuff cheaper than they paid for it themselves.

Iirc they didn't even try to get a feeling for the local market, but instead employed even their advisor from the US - I know I've seen a video about the failure of Walmart that was a little longer but also very much more in depth (and occasionally accurate) about all the things that they did just completely wrong lol

I went to walmart exactly once. I ended up buying the one item I needed and that I came for in another store for a slightly higher price.

Btw: Aldi Germany is splitted into the 2 brothers: ALDI South (= ALDI USA) and ALDI North (owning Trader's Joe).
