Lupus like any other autoimmune condition which has hereditary influence and there are lot of factors which come into picture when one person develop lupus. There can be few genetic predisposition to the disease, there can be some environmental insults and there can be individual factors like hormonal factors, viral infections. All these put together one develops lupus. So it is not one single factor, it is all put together and the immune system gets overactive and results in this disease. The disease can affect any individual for that matter. But lupus is more common in young females in their reproductive age group and of course those patients having relative with some autoimmune condition or lupus per se. In simple words anyone of us can develop any autoimmune diseases and lupus for that matter.
