People are not judging the amount of unread books per se but rather the unhealthy book buying habits that shift the focus from reading to buying. I feel like lots of booktubers suffer from unconscious consumerism and promote this unsustainable "lifestyle" (I mean not everyone gets send books for free 24/7) to their audience.

I have 20 sad neglected books lurking somewhere around my house. I don't think it's the unread books that are the problem. it's actually the perceived waste of money/resources that people are subconsciously objecting to. when you or your parents are struggling to pay all the bills and buy enough grocery it is quite frustrating to watch somebody using money on stuff they're not using, month after month. and it doesn't have to be books, it can be basically any kind of collection. the people who guilt and criticize you might themselves have unread books lying about or might not be able to afford more books like you. also some of those dependent on their parents feel double-guilty about it. So while you shouldn't feel guilty for your beautiful library, it's important to understand where this guilt and pressure comes from.

Thank you!!! My husband constantly judges me for having a HUGE tbr, and still buying more books when I go to the book store. But one of my favorite quotes is "nothing is more valuable than an unread library" and I find so much truth in that! You do you!

I feel guilty about my unread books because I never get around to reading them and the reason I don't read them as soon as I get them is because I get lazy or I'm busy watching YouTube vids & scrolling through social media or trying to do schoolwork or I just don't have too much interest or it's taking me too long to get into a book's story, I JUST HAVE TOO MANY DUMB REASONS!!! 😭😭😭😭

I can totally tell that a lot of booktubers feel this pressure. I don't get it either. For me, my book collection is my library, not my tbr. My tbr is the four or five books that I pick out to read for the month. I don't care that my collection is overflowing. That's exactly how a library should be. Enjoy collecting, enjoy reading, and don't listen to the haters. Books should bring you joy, not stress. Love your channel! Keep up the good work.
