How to Put in an Optical Cable

I show you how to insert an digital optical cable. Doesn't matter if its going into TV, sound bar, etc. Hope this helps.

For a noob like me you may want to mention that you have to remove the clear protector over the optical cable end! It looks like it should stay on to me. Remove the bubble/protector, or the cable never snaps in!!

My cable had a plastic cover that looked like it was supposed to be there. Since I received two cables I decided to remove the plastic bubble cover on the tip of the cable and I was able to insert the cable all the way.

Nowhere on the box did it say to remove the small protective caps on the cable ends. They looked like they were part of the cable. I tried for hours to get the cable to snap in to no avail. Only when I read the Youtube comments did I realize they came off. The cable then slipped easily into place. DUH!!

thanks so much for this video. I found that this optical audio is really nice but I can't ever seem to get the "snap" sound to get it to lock in place. It goes in but no "snap" . I'll keep trying

The optical input on my tv is upside down not visible to the eye . it has to be inserted by feel, which in some activities is fun but this is not one of those events .

How long of an optical cable can u use which it won’t effect the quality? Does it make a difference if u use 2 meter or 10 meter optical cable???

Surely the most confusing and user unfriendly connection ports of all time. I broke the protective tab of the optical out port on my TV because I couldn't work out which way it went in

I must have bought a bad cable, theres no snap and its loose as fuck touch it and connection is lost

the optical port on my tv is messed up. the "door" is missing and there's a little silver clip that is bent up against the optical light. I tried bending the clip back down but the cable still won't snap in so I"m thinking the door needs to be there for the cable to snap in. I got the tv from someone for free and I'm trying the optical audio because using rCA to stereo plug does not shut the tv speakers off. I thought optical audio might do that but the darn tv one is broken. 😞 Must my luck! It's a Vizio V655-J9 if anyone cares to take a gander at how to turn the darn speakers off while a soundbar is attached.. but I don't think it's possible... there's also no 1/8" stereo out jack... a $500 tv.. the $200 cheap Ocosmo walmart special I have even has one!
