Shadowlands Anthony Hopkins Full Movie

Based on the true story of Narnia author C.S. Lewis, known as Jack, who meets Joy, an American fan of his, while he is a professor at Oxford University. The two fall deeply in love, only for her to be diagnosed with cancer.

Anthony Hopkins does a masterful job of portraying Lewis. Prior to production, Hopkins read many of C. S. Lewis's books. He especially loved a Grief Observed, upon which this movie is based.

When I lost my son in 2014, as a mother, the pain choked me I can't think of anything in order to ease it. It' s unusual for me to think that my child got ahead of me that I am here and he's not. That I am living and he's not. Ten years after his passing, the pain is still the same. But I think there's no expiry date for grieving. I missed you so much my son, till we meet again.
Thank you for this very moving movie.

I remember going to see this movie at the theatre in Portland, Oregon. When leaving afterward I experienced a great phenomenon -- every man who was also walking out of it was crying, or obviously had been crying. From young twenty-somethings up through senior citizens. Some were hiding their faces so no one would notice, but others weren't so worried about blowing their noses or wiping their tears in public. It was amazing. Have never experienced that again.

Shadowlands is a 1993 British biographical drama film about the relationship between academic C. S. Lewis (played by Anthony Hopkins) and Jewish American poet Joy Davidman (played by Debra Winger), her death from cancer, and how this challenged his Christianity. It was directed by Richard Attenborough with a screenplay by William Nicholson based on his 1985 television film and 1989 stage play of the same name. The 1985 script began life as I Call It Joy written for Thames Television by Brian Sibley and Norman Stone. Sibley later wrote the book, Shadowlands: The True Story of C. S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. The film won the 1993 BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film. The film marked the last film appearance of English actor Michael Denison

I watched this movie in my 20s, 30s, 40s and now I’m in my 50s 😅😅😅 thought I would meet someone like C.S. Lewis and fall in love 😂 it never did but the movie has accompanied my many quiet nights❤

The quote, “The pain then is a part of the happiness now”. What a profound reality, But after losing my youngest son unexpectedly ten months ago, made me realize a personal truth. The love I continue to have for him, the memories of being in a father/son relationship, are in the daily tears I shed now. I’m not ashamed of these tears. And I wouldn’t trade him or these tears for the world. “The pain now is a part of the happiness then”. Love is that powerful.

He wrote the book A Grief Observed about going through his struggles with his faith after she died. I stayed up all night reading it. It was brutally honest and beautifully written. He brings you through his doubt to a stronger faith.
His book The Problem with Pain is also truly good.
