The best fighter of WW2? I don't think so. Good for escorting bombers, but not the best apart from that.

well i mean they kind of had to rush things it took the designers 102 days to make a prototype which alone is insane the main constraint reports were the designing the air intake routings since its a sleek very compact aircraft the room for which the air inlets were guided to the engine compression shaft it conflicted with the tensioner bars for the rudder just under the piolets seat but more to the rear

Yes that design problem have al the motors build in the States!Up until now!On everything inclusive cars.

Fun fact: Allison P-51 was faster below 16K' than Merlin P-51.
The problem was, bomber escort, and resultant combat with Luftwaffe was above this altitude, where better performance (supercharging) was required.
