WW2, 1944: P-51 Mustang Catches The Drop Tank of a Bf 109 | AI Enhanced, Colorized, 60fps, 4k

Restored footage shows a P-51 Mustang open fire on a Bf 109, some rounds land on the drop tank causing it to ignite, the pilot, Lt D.H Schuh, saw the pilot eject moments later. I'll have the full video out on my channel in a few days.

Amazing that the fuel tank didn't explode before it separated from from the ME. Though the German pilot was probably ripped to pieces by that time anyway. What balls those guys had on both sides.

The flashes are not caused by tracer rounds, but by the impact of Armor-Piercing, Incendiary (API) ammunition. As the name implies, API was designed to not only penetrate through the plane, but also ignite fuel - something which clearly occurs here.

That burst was spot on. Peppered the cockpit with a few 50cal. Probably why it trailed off like that at the end
