I would actually argue the song is more about him going through a nasty breakup. Mainly because his line "I'm just a notch in your bed post, but you're just a line in a song" meaning they're both trying to belittle the other as much as they can. Making them nearly negligible to each other

Fall Out Boy! If you're interested, the videos for "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More Touch Me, " "Dance, Dance, " and "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race, " in that order, could be considered chronological, as in, they all tie into each other. They can be watched separately, but the video for "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" starts right where the "Dance, Dance" video leaves off and at the beginning of the "Dance, Dance" video, "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More Touch Me, " can be heard coming from an open window. There's no reason to watch them in this order, it's just fun.

Don't even get me started on The Youngblood Chronicles, which is an an album of theirs where they made a video for each song and stitched them together to make a short movie. It's pretty great.

Absolute favorite fall out boy song. This song was my intro to them back in middle school. Definitely check out this whole album in your spare time. And you should react to Dance Dance, another song from this album.
