We own 2022 X3. My family rented 2024 Q5 in Germany. Family of 4, loaded with luggage and drove like ... a dream. Comfortable and handled so well. Hit 208 km on autobahn. So comfort yes, handling very good. The only thing I did not like was the infotainment. X3's is so much easier to use.

Thank you for the great review. It helped me choose. I totally agree with you. I’m at the end of my GLC300 lease and I just switched to a 2021 Q5 Progressiv with black S-line trim (exact same model and color than in the review). Driving dynamic, seats and better technology convinced me. Price of Audi is much more competitive too. I was due for a change after 2 back to back Mercedes.

I just got the Q5 so I don’t have the long term experience but I love it so far. Before that I had a GLC300 for 4 years and a GLK350 for 4 years too. I was a bit disappointed by the Mercedes ride quality. It’s nice at the beginning but both cars had back shock issues after only a few months. They replaced them under warranty but a few months later the shocks were noisy and clunky again. It drove me nuts. I also had the famous squeeling brake on the GLC. This was a frequently reported issue. I also hated the Pirelli Scorpio Verde Run Flat tires. These tires were very hard and affected the ride quality so much. I was liking my winter tire better so you can imagine... These tires are also expensive and very hard to find. I had a flat last summer during my vacation and I had to make a lot of phone calls to realize that no one (not even 4 different Mercedes dealers) had them in stock. I had to order one and wait 2 days for the tire to come. Fortunately, I was able to buy a used non runflat similar tire in the meantime so I didn’t completely ruin my vacations. Never again run flat tire. Audi also offers real leather seats standard. Mercedes comes with leatherette. I had to replace the bottom of the driver seat on my GLK (600$) because it wear down after a few years. So, this is my experience with Mercedes. Overall OK but not great.

YES YES I totally agree with Audi keeping the MMI wheel + a touch screen. They put so much time into perfecting the sound and ergonomics of it but they got rid of it too quickly.

You guys just made me decide on this car, I’m a little disappointed with what they did to the MMI and the shape of the front light. Been driving a Progressive S-line for the last 4 years. I think it’s time for new ride.

As I write this comment in June 2024, I decided to get the Q5 in Daytona Pearl s-line with black optics package over the x3 and glc. I’m based in Switzerland and the lease on the Q5 monthly was a good 20-25% cheaper than other rivals. After all the discounts, it worked out to be 68K CHF with all the bells and whistles.

Good review. I actually watch car reviews on vehicles I plan to buy second hand every seven years. I currently have Q5 2013 and will consider this 2021 model in 2028. Where I live cars don't get driven long distances. I can find 7 year old vehicles with barely 60, 000 km which is way before the breakdown point of this model at 79% depreciation (includes import tax)

Your review points mimicid exactly what I thought through my buying process. I recently researched and test drove all the players in that midsize SUV segment and ended up purchasing a 2021 Q5. I read the reviews about the X3 and thought that was going to be the car that won me over but I was disappointed with it. Seating was uncomfortable for me and I actually found the drive to be a touch harsh rather than dynamic. The nail in the BMW coffin was seeing all the current recalls on the new model. There are too many recalls to overlook, something is going on with their production.

The Audi Q5 isn’t perfect and I can point out things that annoy me but it was the goldilocks vehicle for our seemed just right.

Andrea said she didn’t care about the upgraded stereo but for the audiophiles out there. The Bang and Olufsen upgrade for the Q5 is the best upgradable stereo in this particular segment. Much better than the X3’s Harman Kardon and a slight edge over GLC’s Burmester.

Plus the Quantum grey colour that comes standard is so 🔥

Great review! I think the Q5 along with all other Audi’s just look so sharp and always seem to stand out on the road. I hardly ever notice a BMW anything but always break my neck trying to stop and look at an Audi 😂

I hope its better than my 18 Technik sline. Very hard ride, if in normal drive massive turbo lag, nowhere to put a phone or incidentals. Lots of electrical issues and a pointless track pad. Mine is same colour and does look great though. I drive my wife's Crosstrek mainly now. Good show.
